Good books on Oracle for beginners
by: Anonymous

It's hard to recommend specific books because teh technology changes so quickly and many authors seem to write just one book and never update it. Also there isn't one book that will teach you everything you need to konw which depends of course on your job role. Developers would need to know SQL, and PL/SQL and possibly Application Express. DBA's would need to know SQL and obviously Oracle database administration.

On that basis here are some book recommendatios. For PL/SQL we recommend Steven Feuerstein and Bill Pribyl's book "Oracle PL/SQL Programming". For beginners to Oracle we recommend "Oracle Essentials" the 5th edition of which covers Oracle 12c. Finally if you're interested in becoming an Oracle Certified Professional the Sybex exam guides are good - see Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Professional Study Guide.

For SQL you don't really need a book as there are many tutorials on the web. The best way is to download the Oracle software and install it on your pc (see Oracle 12c Installation on Linux for a guide) and then practice. The same goes for PL/SQL - we have a series of free PL/SQL tutorials on our site.
