VCE Add two new Converged Infrastructure models

VCE is calling this its biggest news since its creation as they add two new low end models to its line of Vblock pre-configured cloud computing systems. VCE also announced its teaming up with SAP AG to add SAP HANA database to the Vblock system. Vblocks new system 100 and 200 models will join system 300 and 700. VCE unveiled a new software management application that is said to give users a single view of the entire Vblock environment. System 100 and 200 will use Cisco's UCS C Series blade servers. system 100 will use Cisco Catalyst Ethernet switch whilst System 200 wil use Cisco Nexus 5500 series switch.

Oracle release more patches for Java

Oracle is not done with releasing patches for its Java SE this month as more will be released on the 19th of February. Oracle pulled the plug on an early February due to a serious vulnerability that affected Java at the browser level. Oracles sped up release did not include a small number of patches that where planned for inclusion. The patch that was released on February 1st contained 50 fixes that also includes 44 for vulnerabilities at the browser level.

Google expands infrastructure-as-a-service into Europe

Google is expanding its infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud computing platform into Europe as well as dropping the price of its cloud-based storage by 20%. Googles expansion into Europe means data traffic is closer to where its needed by European users. The data Centre in Europe supports Goggle APP Engine, Google cloud storage, Google SQL.

Oracle increases its cloud presence

Oracles Cloud platform is set to expand its limits as a result of the company's partnership with Engine Yard. Oracle made an unstated investment in Engine Yard. The partnership is expected to raise Oracles cloud development platform so that its own applications will be more available in the cloud. Programming languages like Ruby, PHP and node.js are all based on Engine YArd PaaS platform. While Oracle was slow to get started in the cloud, it has done much to catch up and develop its cloud services.

AWS Cloud is now certified for the use of SAP Business Suites

Amazon Web Services has been certified to run SAP's business intelligence on its cloud that will enable enterprises to gain more agility and infrastructure cost saving and allow them to standardise their use of public cloud. Users will be able to deploy mission critical SAP applications which include SAP Enterprise Resource Planning, SAP Customer Relationship Management and SAP Product Life Cycle Management. Customers can run SAP work loads based on AWS's pay-per-use model and only pay for resources used. Enterprises will be able to license SAP applications to run in AWS clpud from authorised SAP reseller or use their existing SAP software licences on Amazon EC2 with no additional SAP licence fees.

Cisco to buy Cloud Networking company Meraki

On Sunday Cisco announced it intends to purchase Merki a vendor of technology for cloud based management of wireless LAN, security appliances, and mobile devices for US $1.2 billion. Cisco said in a statement that the acquisition of Meraki, complements and expands Cisco's strategy to offer more software - centric solutions to simplify network management. Cisco is targeting Meraki's technology for secure, cloud managed networks at midmarket businesses.

Microsoft In memory to challange SAP and Oracle

Microsoft on Wednesday made 3 announcements related to its SQL server database business. Hekaton is a preview project that promises to bring-in-memory OLTP processing to the OLTP processing to the next release of the database. Microsoft's two other announcements was the release of service pack 1 for Microsoft's SQL server and announced the next release of the SQL server Parallel Data Warehouse.

Oracle takes a share in PaaS vendor Engine Yard

Oracle has taken a share in Engine Yard maker of PaaS for Ruby, PHP and Node.js applications. It is expected that Oracle and Engine Yard are going to connect their respective PaaS offerings to enable rapid development of applications. The move by Oracle is meant to allow users of its Oracle Cloud PaaS more development options. The partnership with oracle will give Engine Yard access to new technologies.

Oracle buys Instantis

Oracle has increased its catalog of Fusion applications with another software acquisition of developer Instantis. Instantis sells project portfolio management software tools that help IT help desks and product managers track progress. The company is targeting cloud computing rivals like salesforce.com and SAP with its own products on the internet.

Exadata rocking the tech industry

Oracles industry - leading engineered systems Exadata, Exalogic, and Exalytics - interlace - servers, storage and networking equipment in integrated boxes. Exadata X3 database is the newest addition to the engineered systems. Oracle is giving its customers more justification to realize they need to move beyond the traditional and non optimized systems of the past. Instantis is bought by Oracle for Project Portfolio Management Software

Oracle on Thursday announced it has agreed to purchase PPM (project portfolio management) software vendor. Instantis has both on-premises and cloud based software which will be combined with primavera as well as Oracles next generation Fusion applications. The main product of Instantis is named Enterprise Track which incorporates the sharing of dashboards and reports.

SAP goes after salesforce.com with social software products

SAP last Wednesday made a series of announcements to define itself as a major player in the enterprise social software market. A new platform called SAP Jam mostly available it combines features from the Jam Enterprise social network along with the ones from SAPs stream work software for collaboration. SAP's social tools are aimed at solving discrete problems that customers currently have. SAP Jam is integrated with other applications in the company's portfolio including SAP CRM , Sales On Demand and Financials On Demand.

Rackspace offer allows users to build customized virtual networks

Rackspace announced cloud networks that lets customers create multiple networks , or tiers when using cloud based virtual machines. Normally Rackspace offers either a public or private network for customers using vLANS (virtual Local Area Networks) separating customers using fire walls. Cloud Networks incorporate IP from the OpenStack quantum project which is focused on virtual networking.

SAP Reveal Pricing Polices for cloud intergrations

SAP revealed a set of pricing and polices for putting together its cloud-based and on premises applications providing some options at no charge while others cost customers additional money. A new cloud-based integration service is now available only as an additional for SAP's customer On Demand application but will also be added to others. At the moment SAP charges 7.5% of a customer on Demand subscription for the new cloud integration option.

SAP Launch Cloud Platform that was built on Hana

On Tuesday SAP launched that they are launching the first in a series of planned cloud based applications and data base services. Both services run on the Hana in memory database. SAP is challenging salesforce.com's Heroku unit with a new Java based cloud development platform called SAP NetWeaver Cloud. SAP's new platform is called SAP Hana cloud and it includes both App and DB services.

SAP adds HANA In memory database to Amazon Web Services

On Tuesday SAP announced at the Tech Ed conference in Las Vegas that they have made HANA In - memory database available on Amazon Web Services at an Hourly rate which gives customers and Partners a way to try out the platform without investing in hardware and software licenses. Customers can Run HANA on AWS for US$0.99 Per hour plus Amazons charges.

At Oracle Open world 2011 the company delivered new cloud services with a focus on selling to Oracles own base. The strategy is needed to deliver enterprise - class applications. Most of Oracles new announcements were the integration of its new SaaS acquisitions from 2011 to 2012 where social sites, business intelligence and marketing services. Oracle is filling out a portfolio of SaaS services that include its fusion applications.

Data from Hong Kong suggest that hiring expectations in the technology sector are higher then the other sectors. The observations came from Employment Trends report which revealed the job market has stabilised in Hong Kong. Cisco Release OpenStack Distribution

Cisco has rolled out a free distribution of the open source Cloud management. Cisco is one of a number of OpenStack member organization that have released distributions of open source cloud. Folsom the latest version of OpenStack code includes a new feature called Quantum that allows for virtual networking in clouds that are powered by OpenStack.

Amazon Web services upgrade cloud - based Linux

The Linux AMI (Amazon Machine Image) is a supported Linux image offered by Amazon for use on its Elastic Compute Cloud . AWS Linux AMI version 2012.09 is based on version 3.2.30 of the Linux Kernel. A new addition is version 2.15 of R language. The AMI supports multiple versions of both Apache and PHP which are designed to to work together in specific combinations. Apache 2.2 in conjunction with PHP 5.3 is the default. Version 2.4 of Apache was released earlier this year which was the first major upgrade since 2005.

Red hat and zend sign a deal on OpenShift PHP cloud

Red Hat has signed a deal with Zend which will see the two companies cooperate on getting the OpenShift cloud to run the commercial-grade PHP engine called Zend server. Zend well be making a open shift destination platform for PHP applications coded by by developers using Zend studio. Under the deal singed by the 2 companies Zend server will be available on the hosted version of the openshift platform cloud. Red Hat and Zend are taking up enterprise-grade support that comes with Zend server as well as data caching. OpenShift API's have been integrated into Zend server which allows for Red Hats platform cloud to manage the Zend engine and for the Zend engine to reach back out to openshift.

Oracle Sheds light on database 12c

Oracle on Monday gave attendees of the open world conference in San Francisco a deeper look at its new 12c database and Exadata X3 machine. The key feature of 12c which is set to release sometime next year is multienancy which allows the user if they choose to create multiple "pluggable" databases that reside within a single database container. "Database 12c makes much more efficient use of hardware resources saving companies money", Andy Mendelsohn said.

Cloud will not be cheaper then On - Premise

Deploying applications in the cloud is not going to be cheaper then deploying on - premise infrastructure but the service benefits make the cost of adapting it worthwhile. Martin Saunders speaking at the Apps world summit in London said "People understand that cloud is not cheaper . It is always going to be cheaper for a company to buy a server and run it them selves". Saunders said that people often compare the cost of running a server in the cloud. They conclude that the cost of the on-premise server can be written off in three years compared to the clouds on - going expenses.

Oracle Releases Pricing for Cloud software offerings

Oracle's website now has pricing for its on-demand database and Java development service, as well as for some applications. Pricing for the database service, which uses version 11g R2 starts at US $ 175 per month for one schema, 5GB of disk storage and 30GB of data transfer. For $2,000 per month developers get 50GB of storage and 300GB of data transfer, but only one schema.
